Overview
Trek through the magnificent Langtang Valley following the rushing Langtang Khola river past flourishing forests and bamboo groves to a collection of high alpine pastures, glaciers and peaks which border with Tibet. Many suggest this special valley is the most beautiful in Nepal. Once you’ve reached the valley head your trek will culminate in an ascent of the relatively non-technical 5500 metre high Yala Peak which close to the Tibetan border and north-east of Kyangin Gompa (3870m).
It’s a great opportunity to experience the Himalayan lifestyles and Tibetan culture plus you’ll be amazed by the turquoise lakes, massive glaciers and high passes on the way. The whole experience is a classic mountaineering adventure in one of the quieter parts of the Himalayas.
2025 marks the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first female summit of Everest by Junko Tabei (Japan) by climbing Yala Peak. A 5550m mountain which Junko also climbed. 2025 also marks the 10th anniversary of the earthquake which devastated so many areas of Nepal.
This all female expedition is focused on sharing and learning new skills, growing confidence, meeting other incredible women, immersing yourself in local culture, creating discussion and enjoying an amazing new adventure. Everest summiteer and all round fantastic high altitude mountain leader Jo Bradshaw will be leading the expedition.

Plus you can experience different activities, learn new skills and traverse across the breadth of Costa Rica under your own power with bikes, boots & boats.
Pre-trip info
On booking your Costa Rica Journey to the Sea, you’ll receive all the exciting trip info via our free mobile travel app. You’ll have access to your itinerary, trip countdown, live updates, contact info, weather forecasts, know before you go trip info, kit lists and much more at the touch of a button 24 hours a day via your mobile phone. A’ppy days.
Carbon footprint
We’ve crunched the numbers to work out the total carbon footprint of the Costa Rica Coast to Coast trip, and plant or protect enough trees to suck 2x as much back out the atmosphere.
What’s the number?
It works out on average at 147kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, leaders, crew and office operations.
The only thing not included is travel to Costa Rica. Given that our beloved guests travel from all parts of the UK for this adventure we have no way of reliably knowing their travel plans therefore we’re unable to include an individual number in the figure on display here.
What does the number mean?
To give you a snapshot of the numbers:
- Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you).
- A return economy class flight London – New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air over a period of 5 – 10 years.
Pre-trip support
With being a small family business we pride ourselves with providing personal, professional and friendly service. We appreciate that everyone has different levels of experience and reasons for wishing to embark on the Costa Rica Coast to Coast Adventure and therefore require varying levels of support and guidance. We’re here to help you every step of the way from the moment you join the flock all the way through to completing the challenge and beyond. Jim and Sue’s knowledge and expertise stems from dozens of years of travelling and exploring the destinations that we visit in order to fully support you in the lead up to your adventure. Having both completed the Costa Rica Coast to Coast adventure, we are perfectly placed to answer all your questions no matter how big or small.
Flights
Flights are not included as part of your Costa Rica Coast to Coast Adventure travel package to allow you the flexibility to book your own flights. This way you can travel earlier or stay longer if you wish to explore more of Central America, fly from your closest UK airport therefore reducing carbon miles or use any frequent flyer points for your flights.
Once booked on this trip, we will provide you with the recommended flights to book which include your airport transfers in Costa Rica. If you fly at alternative times, you’ll simply need to make your own airport transfer arrangements. We can help you with this if you need and we recommend:
- Public transportation which is considerably less expensive than taxi
- Public transportation leaves a much smaller environmental footprint
- Or if there is 3 or more of you, then taxi-sharing is also an option to help with costs and reduce separate journeys and a higher carbon footprint.
We can most certainly help with your flight bookings if you wish. Our lovely Flight Agent, who is ATOL and ABTA protected, can quote and book flights for you. This way you are not paying any additional commissions and your flights are fully protected.
For more info, please contact us at info@adventurousewe.co.uk or call us on 01492 588 069. Where here to make your travel plans as flexible or as structured as you wish.
Passport
You’ll need a valid passport to travel internationally and most countries require your passport to have a minimum of 6 months validity, so remember to check the expiry date.
We need your passport information to get everything ready for your trip so it’s important that the information on your booking matches your passport exactly. Please take care to provide the correct details. We recommend carrying a copy of the photo page of your passport while travelling and leaving a copy at home with family or friends.
Visa
Travellers from the UK, US and EU normally do not need a visa to enter Costa Rica; however, proof of onward travel may be required – we suggest you take a physical copy of your flight details in case officials ask to see them. You may stay as a visitor for up to 180 days under a tourist visa waiver, although the exact period is at the discretion of the immigration officer on arrival.
Please note, visa requirements often change and it is your responsibility to obtain any required visas for this trip. Therefore, we recommend that you check with the nearest embassy or consulate of your chosen destination(s), including any countries you may be transiting or transferring through.
Some local governments provide guidance on what visas their citizens need. To help, we’ve gathered a selection of useful links below.

Is this trip suitable for me?
The Mt Toubkal Winter Trek is graded Tough due to its mix of high altitude and winter conditions. It’s ideal for confident trekkers looking for a great intro to winter mountaineering. Some previous multi-day trekking experience is helpful but not essential.
Expect steep, uneven terrain where you’ll use crampons and an ice axe under the guidance of your local guides. You’ll stay in a comfortable guesthouse in Imlil and a basic mountain refuges during the trek with dorm style rooms. Temperatures range from mild in the valleys to well below freezing at higher altitudes, so good layering is key.
Your local guide will cover winter techniques before the summit day to help you feel confident and safe on the mountain.
How fit do I need to be and how can I prepare?
You’ll need a good level of fitness for the Mt Toubkal Winter Trek, with long days of hiking (6–8 hours) at altitude and a challenging descent on the final day (8-10 hours) – so good endurance is key. The terrain is steep and uneven, and snow conditions can make progress slower and more demanding.
Regular hillwalking or hiking with a weighted pack in the months before the trek is ideal preparation. Combine this with cardio such as running, cycling, or stair climbing to build stamina and strength training that targets the legs, core, and back.
No previous mountaineering experience is required – your local guide will teach essential crampon and ice axe skills during a pre-summit training session. With steady preparation, determination and a love for the mountains, you’ll be ready to take on North Africa’s highest peak in winter.

Great Day
I recently completed the King’s Trail with Adventurous Ewe, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. It was definitely one of the toughest challenges I’ve taken on – physically demanding and pushing me well out of my comfort zone, but that’s exactly what made it so rewarding. A huge shoutout to the lovely Jim, whose expert knowledge, calm encouragement, and great sense of humour kept us going every step of the way.
Chris Craig
Well done Sue and her team for delivering another epic challenge, on this occasion a cycle challenge from Geneva to Nice over the French Alps with a detour to take in Mont Ventoux. Flawlessly delivered and nothing was ever too much trouble. 5 stars isn’t enough! Now where’s my day bag 😉

A huge shoutout to the lovely Jim, whose expert knowledge, calm encouragement, and great sense of humour kept us going every step of the way. His experience really made a difference, especially on the more challenging sections. And the scenery? Absolutely breathtaking. Every climb was worth it for the views. Truly some of the most stunning landscapes I’ve ever seen. If you’re up for a challenge and want to experience something truly special, I couldn’t recommend The Kings Trail with Adventurous Ewe more highly!
